Birthday party favors for small children are deceptively difficult to find on a budget. This is partly due to the many restrictions you face – such as some parents not wanting their children to have sweets – and partly due to price constraints: cheaper items tend to be lower quality items.

So what do you do? You are ideally searching for something that is inedible, but safe to put in a baby’s mouth, with no sharp edges or small detachable pieces, of sturdy construction, sporting colourful exterior and creative enough to warrant interest from a young child. It does seem impossible. However, it is not.

Bath toys – with or without squirt function are a wonderful little novelty toy to use as birthday party favor for children as young as 6 months. Purchase a packet with several and split them up – one to a bag and throw in a small rusk or rice cracker (suitable from 4 months) as a treat.

Removable tattoos are an option for children slightly older and provide an unbelievable amount of pleasure. Available in bulk, or packaged in their own little containers, a collection of these tattoos keeps little ones – and parents – happy at the end of party as a children birthday party favors.

Bubble blowers are not the overwhelming choice for many parents as they tend to spill quite easily and the bubble mixture can sometimes stain carpets, however, non-spill bubble tumblers, which come in multipacks (so won’t break the bank), are an excellent party favor that stays in favour with parents too.

For older girls, groovy bead tubes filled with a cotton string, trinket, and enough beads for one necklace, bracelet, or anklet make for a lovely birthday party favor.

Boys, on the other hand, might prefer something like a bug jar which allows them to capture a bug and study it under two levels of magnification. It also comes in lots of different colours.

If you feel your party favor needs a bit of jazzing up, then adding a shaped balloon and/or a couple of crayons, special pencils, or pens (depending on the age) is a nice way to make your birthday party favor a fabulous hit with both kids and parents alike – and won’t cost you an arm and a leg either!
